The final value of the energy produced in a wind farm depends on several factors, such as the individual characteristics of the site, the type of wind technology applied and the particular conditions of the electricity market the project will be in. Due to this fact most feasibility studies apply techniques of cash-flow analysis and risk assessment.

Working as a team is a key point when working, collecting and analysing huge amounts of information.

The feasibility studies typically include the following tasks:

  • Definition of the wind resource and its spatial variability.
  • Selection of wind sites based on criteria such as wind resource availability, distance to the grid and access to the site.
  • Identification of the environmentally sensitive areas.
  • Assessment of the suitability of the selected wind turbines.
  • Analysis of the transmission lines and their capacity to accept new sources of wind power.
  • Financial analysis of the project.

A key aspect of a viability study is the wind resource assessment of the site. Meteosim Truewind produces wind resource assessments at any geographical scale, from high resolution simulations aimed to improve wind plant layouts design to lower resolution aimed to identify suitable wind power sites. These studies are completed with estimates of total power to be installed and of energy produced at them.
