WindSurvey™

WindSurvey™ provides a first estimation of the existing wind resource in very large regions, becoming usually the first exploration tool for a new territory. WindSurvey™ allows the customer identify promising zones for a later deep analysis and wind resource study at lower cost.

Wind resource assessment using WindSurvey

Mean annual wind speed in the east of China according to WindSurvey™.

BENEFITS:

Wind resource assessment for large regions at a reduced cost.

Allows the characterization of the wind resource: mean wind, Weibull distributions, annual, seasonal, monthly and diurnal means...

The delivery of the results in GIS format allows the integration with other georeferenced databases.

Allows the optimum selection of meteorological tower placing.

Estimation of the wind resource for very large regions

Sometimes, developers face with regions or even full countries with favorable politic and economic conditions for the development of wind projects, but with a completely unknown wind resource.

In the first steps of a project, MesoMap® is considered an attractive product, but it can exceed the available budget if  the region is very large.

For this kind of customer, Meteosim Truewind offers WindSurvey™. This service covers all the requirements of the customers in the preliminary phases of a project.

The only difference between MesoMap® and WindSurvey™ is resolution. The later runs with a detail of 5 km in mesoscale and between 500 m and 1 km in microscale. This provides a first picture of the wind resource, that can be enough for a first choice of the most promising zones and with an adjusted budget. In the next steps, higher resolution tools can be used, but in more limited zones.

The results will be delivered in GIS format. The customer can handle the data output together with other georeferenced databases related with the development of future wind projects.

Without any doubt, WindSurvey™ is the first step to do. The preliminary wind resource assessment must be done with tools of this kind in order to focus correctly the wind development plans. Other sources of data available in the market have less resolution or less representativity.
