Wind Plant Layout

Meteosim Truewind has a broad experience in the design and optimization of wind turbine layouts. The Meteosim Truewind experience in the wind power technology, in wind resource assessment and in the assessment of the performance of wind projects facilitates taking any decision during the wind project design process. Any aspect of the wind plant design as the wind turbine layout definition (micrositing) or the selection of the most suitable turbine model and hub height is taken based on this know-how and experience.

Wind farm layout and design

All important aspects are taken into account when designing a wind farm, being among them nearby dwellings and inhabited areas, protected areas, most suitable access routes... All information is geographically located with the maximum accuracy.

ADVANTAGES:

Wide experience in wind plant design.

Design process highly adaptable to the particular needs of each site and costumer.

Inclusion of the key factors of the wind plant design: design of optimized wind turbine layouts, analysis of potential constraints of each individual wind project, detailed wind flow assessment, energy production estimates.

dditional required studies such as maps of zones of visual influence (ZVI), wind farm photomontages or photosimulations, impact on microwave link...

Detailed Design of Wind Farms

Meteosim Truewind analyses the particular characteristics of each wind project in order to maximize the performance of the wind plant, while minimizing simultaneously any potential impact. Some of the key aspects when designing a wind farm are:

  • Specific constraints of each project (distance to closest inhabited areas, roads and grid lines, presence of protected areas…).
  • Assessment of the micro-scalar wind flow.
  • Energy yield calculation including the different potential loss sources.
  • Visual impact including maps of zones of visual influence (ZVI).
  • Noise (acoustic) assessment.
  • mpact on microwave links (electromagnetic interference)

The application of both commercial wind power tools such as WAsP and WindFarmer and specific in-house written software allows the objective assessment of the different wind plant design options and the identification of the most suitable solutions.

Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are also applied to handle all factors and information that influence the design of a wind farm layout.

Meteosim Truewind works very closely with its costumers in order to adapt and finalize each design phase as the different potential issues of each particular site are being clarified and resolved. These include for example the definition of the best wind turbine locations according to several criteria such as wind resource, landowner agreements, exclusion zones, noise impact...

The experience obtained from a number of international wind projects helps reducing the uncertainty in any final energy estimate assessment, as a consequence of a better understanding and knowledge of all the factors affecting a wind farm performance such as wind resource distribution, wake and topographical effects, climatic impacts...
